Various tours of the prison are available, here’s a taster of what’s available:
Tunnel tour
Trek through sections of the labyrinth of tunnels on foot, then borad the replica convict punts to explore the submerged passageways accessible only by boat.
Ages 12 – 15 year olds must be accompanied by an adult
Torchlight Tour
Explore the darker side of the Fremantle Prison story at night on an eerie tour by torchlight.
Ages 10+ This experience involves a number of suprises and is not recommended for children under 10.
New Norcia, less than 2 hours NE of Perth
Founded in 1846, New Norcia is Australia’s only Spanish town and offers the chance to step back in time and return on the same day. Drive through The Swan Valley to get there and enjoy all it has to offer such as Oasis Mini Golf and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory as well as the many restaurants and wineries on the way.
Here are a few suggestions to help you best experience New Norcia in a day:
Start your day at the Visitor Centre inside the Museum & Art Gallery for information & tickets.
Open daily 9am-4.30pm (Christmas Eve 9am – 1.30pm. Closed Christmas Day)
- 12pm – Join the monks for Midday Prayer in the Monastery Chapel (20 mins)
- 1.30pm – Repeat of Guided Walking Town Tour (2hrs)
- 2.30pm – Join the monks for Afternoon Prayer in the Monastery Chapel (15mins, not on Sundays)

Opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. Learn the history of the prospectors and diggers and view some of the golden treasures from around the world.
The 19th Century Melting House has walls embedded with gold dust - witness traditional techniques of transforming pure molten gold into solid gold bars.
Gold Pour happens weekdays every hour on the hour from 10am – 4pm or weekends 10am, 11am or 12pm.
