The Place, the new area on the mezzanine level for children and families was opened on 24 May 2009. Now, for the first time, the State Library has a centre with resources and programs that celebrate the joy of reading and literature for children.

The Happy Tree Birthday Celebrations

The Happy Tree is a place of fantasy, where the figures of fairies, pixies, and other delightful characters can be found hidden in the boughs of the tree. Children are invited to share in the birthday celebration and listen to a tale from the Happy tree retold by story teller, Glenn Swift. Bring a plate of food to share.
