Curtin Ave, Mosman Park
From 3 years old
At the Pre-Primary level, children work to develop themselves in the setting of the prepared environment. Five areas of activity assist this process.
Practical life exercises encourage independence through learning to care for oneself, others and the environment. It establishes the work cycle – a work is chosen, completed and returned to its location, ready for another person to use.
The Sensorial Apparatus awakens the mind to the stimuli that are received through the senses; these are then named.
The Language programme begins by making the child aware of the sounds of speech and then associates symbols with them. Through a variety of approaches, writing and reading ensure the beginning of grammar. Their work is always introduced in a meaningful way.
Number work focuses on the decimal system and its operations. The foundations of geometry and algebra are also laid.
The culture area includes elements of.
- Geography – the nature of the earth and its people.
- Biology – the classification of plants and animals.
- History – a sense of the progression of time and of current events.
- Art & Music – experiences of these and an introduction to their styles.

The centre is for children who turn 4 years old prior to June 30th. At Moerlina we value the whole child’s social, emotional and cognitive development and recognise the benefits of introducing children into a physical and social environment without the interruption of changing at pre-primary. Children have the advantage of getting to know teachers, older children and parents in the school community in their daily activities. They are involved in whole school events such as the student run assemblies, excursions & incursions, sleepovers and camp.

Based on the philosophy and practice of the Municipal Schools of Reggio Emilia, we believe is it imperitive that we understand and reflect on the idea of knowing and respecting our children. We need to take the time to listen to our children so that we can build environments and opportunities for our children to safely explore their hundred languages. For this to happen we must recognise that our children are competent individuals.

Junior Kindergarten is a new venture for St Hilda’s. Students can attend two, three or five days a week.
