Soccer or football for some of us, is a popular sport for both boys and girls. Perth is no exception to loving the beautiful game and clubs are all over the Perth metro area. Check the Football West website for a list of clubs throughout Perth.

*February 2010 is the time to start registration for this next season.

Football West

The governing body for Football in WA, which supports the following programs and resources for junior players:

Futsal Development Program

Football played indoors with a small, heavy ball. This is an intense 8 week program during school term time, which focuses on the technical aspects of the game.

Harvey Fresh Footworx clinics are four days of football, where kids can experience fresh and funky football skills with an emphasis on fun, fun and fun. So for your school holidays make sure you check out Harvey Fresh Footworx.

Designed for players of all abilities between the ages of 7 and 13 and costing just $155, Harvey Fresh Footworx provides a safe and fun holiday environment for players to develop their skills and ability by participating in games and activities that have been specifically designed to improve aspects such as general motor skills, individual technique as well as a whole range of social skills.

The Footworx clinic is run by fully qualified Football West coaches who use best practice coaching philosophies, methods, equipment and facilities to give your child the best experience possible and for the best value in WA.

Ages 7 – 12 years olds

The STREET tournament allows players to express themselves and play fast paced, attacking football in a fun and structured environment.

Points are awarded for skills, sportsmanship and teamwork, as well as the number of goals scored by each team. Music also plays a role with the sounds of Hip Hop and Brazilian Samba taking the game back to the street.

The match is played on an indoor court with futsal rules and only four players per team. Are you and your friends up for the STREET challenge?

Small Sided Football

This is something you might like your budding footballer to join, it’s an interactive soccer website sponsored by Optus. They can watch football skills videos, save and make a player character, rate and share photos with friends, collect badges and much more.

We enrolled our boys aged 6 and 4 in the two-day Jungle Sports program at Lords in Subiaco with Andy and Luke – the kids are still talking about it. The program was just fantastic; the boys learned new skills, ran for almost two hours and had a generally excellent time!

This will be an excellent introduction for young children to experience sports with their parents. The program is tailored to a young child’s needs and is purely about having fun and developing fundamental co-ordination and ball skills.

The sessions are an excellent way for the children to have endless fun in a structured indoor environment, and the best part is that mums and dads can join in too!

Each session is broken up into 2 fun drills followed by a skill related fun game at the end. Dynamic warm ups, dribbling, passing, shooting, first touch control, agility movements, goalkeeping, heading, juggling tricks, silky skills and defending.

Jungle Soccer ‘Evolution’

Jungle SOCCER is designed for children to ‘Get in the Game!’ The program has evolved as childrens skills and understanding of soccer gets more advanced. These sessions are fun and appropriate for all abilities, whether they have played club football or not. Lots of touches of the ball, silky skills and smiles of fun!

ZONE Soccer

6-8 year olds

The Jungle ZONE is a program put together especially for those older children (6-8 years) who want to take a slightly more ’serious’ approach to soccer training.

Our programs have been designed for children aged from 3 to 10 years of age and are designed to not only teach the children the art of the World game in a not so competitive fun environment but also to increase their hand eye and gross motor skills along with raising self esteem and self confidence. At the end of each term I will be presenting gifts to the children in recognition of their achievements because I consider all the children to be winners. Learn the basic skills required to play the ‘World Game’. Learn in a non competitive, fun environment.
